On Thursday, April 20, the Boys and Girls Club of Columbus held a mentor celebration for the MSMS students who have mentored with the club during the past school year. This celebration was open to mentors from the fall and spring semesters.

The celebration opened with a small speech from one of the students at the Boys and Girls Club, followed by a presentation of certificates to each mentor who participated in the event. After the certificates were awarded, the mentors were also gifted a dog tag with “Boys and Girls Club Mentor 2016-2017” inscribed on the back. The rest of the event consisted of enjoying cake and punch while the mentors visited with their mentees and mentees’ parents.

The mentorship program with the Boys and Girls club is open to all MSMS students, and is a great opportunity to give back to the community. Mentorship coordinator Samantha Rogers expressed the effect that the mentors have on the Boys and Girls club students.

“The students are given a chance to build relationships with the mentors. These relationships are something that the children looked forward to,” Rogers said.

Senior and two year participant of the mentorship program Reagan Poston described how the program benefits her.

“I feel like we just get so caught up in the stress of MSMS and Boys and Girls club and mentoring lets us step back and see the bigger picture,” Poston said.

Senior Mayukh Datta echoed her sentiments, saying, “Braeden was the one who convinced me to do it, but after I went there, I fell in love with it. I saw it as a stress reliever.”
