If you’ve found yourself befuddled at the appearance of a bright pink beacon coming from the physics classrooms, have no fear, it is simply MSMS senior Emily Hook. Aside from frequently dyeing her hair an array of colors (including red, silver, purple, rainbow, and pink) Emily serves as the GSA president. Emily is also a National Merit Scholar and and was nominated for STAR student. I sat down for a friendly interview with Emily (Rebecca Chen style), and here is what she had to say.

Question 1
Lyndsey: Where are you from?
Emily: Um…err….like where do I live?
Lyndsey: Bahaha, yeah
Emily: Oh, Olive Branch. HAHA, I had an existential crisis there like “Where am I from?”
*both of us started laughing so hard I had to pause the recording*

Question 2
Lyndsey: What is your favorite subject?
Emily: Um……….English? I guess.
Lyndsey: Lol, ok, that sounds doubtful.

Question 3
Lyndsey: Where and for what do you plan on going to college?
Emily: I’m gonna do computer science…um, in terms of where I go, I’ve applied to 14 schools,
and most of them don’t tell me admissions decisions till April 1, so we’ll see.

Question 4
Lyndsey: So what made you decide to come to MSMS?
Emily: Um…well I was homeschooled before…um…and then all of my homeschool groups sort
of just..like..dissipated one year, and so I could either do online classes which are not
fun, not a good time, or I could apply to MSMS…so I chose the latter.
Lyndsey: Wow, that’s really tragic. *sarcastically*
Emily: Yeah, I know, right? *also sarcastically*
Lyndsey: *trying not to laugh* How did that affect you as a person?
Emily: *again, sarcastically* It was really deeply unsettling, y’know having to like pick up my roots and move to a new place is…Real hard time.
Lyndsey: *not sarcastically this time* Wow, I really wish I could convey sarcasm through text.

Question 5
Lyndsey: Where do you see yourself in 20 years?
Emily: *he he* …Uh…I was gonna say alive.
(me cracking up in the background)
Emily: Uh, I guess in a nice house with, uh, a good family?
(still cracking up)

Question 6
Lyndsey: *in the tune of spongebob* What are some of yer’ hobbies and favorite things?
Emily: *chuckle* Uh, I play instruments.
Lyndsey: What kinds of instruments do you play?
Emily: I play flute, piano…uh, alto saxophone, briefly clarinet…and also the violin but then I quit
cause I was really bad at it.

Question 7
Lyndsey: What is your favorite food?
Emily: Uh…Oh caesar salad. Grilled chicken caesar salad is the food of the gods.
Lyndsey: Wow, you’re such a suburban mom.
Emily: Omg, thank you so much. *sarcastically*

Final Question
Lyndsey: Do you have any closing remarks?
Emily: No.
Lyndsey: No? Ok.
Emily: Cool.

Emily was also recently nominated for the senior superlative of “Best Hair: Female”
