While most students might find it crazy to run two to five miles in the Mississippi heat, members of the MSMS Cross Country team can be spotted starting their practice everyday at 4:30 p.m. on the dot. Just glance out your window after school, and you will see the team taking off in a cloud of dust.

Monday through Thursday, the team runs a route from in front of Goen Hall all the way to the Riverwalk and the Soccer Complex where they practice sprints.

Girls Captain Sydney Melton said, “I like running because it helps clear my head after a stressful day.”

“The course at this weekend’s meet in Amory is really flat, which is unfortunate because personally, I’m better at running hills. But the team this year seems really strong. There are a lot of dedicated juniors, so I’m really excited for this season!” said Melton.

Boys Captain Nathan Methvin said, “I’m really looking forward to this season because I think we have an awesome team this year. Coach Hall is really tough and she’s really whipping us into shape. Our runs and workouts are a bit more extensive than last year’s too, so I have a good feeling about this season!”

Amory Meet Results:

Senior Abby Perry – 2nd Place

Junior Ariel Williams – 4th Place

Junior Hannah Houston – 5th Place
