“They misunderestimated me” -George Bush

That’s Dustin Dunaway’s favorite quote. He is  a senior here at the Mississippi School for Mathematics and Science he works as president of FBLA, president of Young Independents, and an officer in the SGA.

Dustin is active in a diverse group of clubs. “I started out at MSMS with things only me and my friends enjoyed, but my participation in clubs has grown with the self identity I’ve found here. That’s why I participate in clubs like Young Independents; it’s something I’m passionate about, that I’ve found in myself here.”

Dustin hopes to pursue a career as an architect, and is an expert in historic design of buildings. “The ideal plan is to get my doctorate degree in something where I can study buildings in towns like Columbus.” He hopes to study the effects of design in architecture on the inhabitants of the home.

Dustin is the youngest member in his family, and is from the town of Brookhaven. He loves personally designed Comfort Color shirts due to their personal aesthetic. Dunaway listens to under-the-radar bands like Rainbow Kitten Surprise to the musical genius of Lady Gaga; he says he listens to such a variety due to their musical ability, and the colorful nuance of their lyrics. Dustin is a wonderfully gifted craftsman, and has made many beautiful wood art pieces. “My favorite wood has to be cherry. The coloring is obviously beautiful, but it’s very representative of my family. Cherry trees grow all around our house, and it smells so beautiful when you cut it.”

“Dustin is definitely known for the way he interacts with people,” says his roommate Tyler. “He once said ‘you are superior in every art form than me,’ and then continued to tell me how much I was better than him in art.”

“The funniest interaction that I’ve had with Dustin was I was riding on the Elevator, and the elevator stops on the fourth floor. He jumped off, even though he lives the floor above. I rode the elevator up to the fifth, and when the door opened, he was there staring at me. I remembered he said, ‘I beat you.’ He walked off and we’ve never had a real conversation except him talking to me about my shoes yet,” Noah Hunt, a classmate recounts.

“The nicest thing Dustin has said to me, is he said I had the hair of a god,” says classmate Russell Hatcher.
