Campaign posters decorate the halls and stickers litter the front of shirts. With the anticipation for winning in the air, it is time for Junior Class Officer Elections.

The juniors can run for five different positions: President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and Historian. The main job of the Junior Class Officers is to plan Prom, so it is an important job. There seems to be a lot of competition between the juniors this year. With four candidates running for President already, it is definitely going to be a close election with the possibility of runoffs.

Here is the list of Juniors running:

President:

Dustin Dunaway

Haley Hsu

Jenny Nguyen

Mickey Sandifer

Vice-President:

Mary Lee

Anna Klae Leland

Virginia Pressly

Secretary:

Hannah Houston

Treasurer:

Caroline Smith

Historian:

Maggie Ford

Raksha Chatakondi, last year’s Junior Class President, said, “Running for junior class president made me face one of my fears of public speaking, but after it was done and I actually won, it was so worth it. Being junior class president was one of the most fun things I’ve ever experienced. Although it was a lot of work, especially leading up to prom week, it was amazing seeing everyone have fun prom night and having everyone appreciate all of the hard work we put in.”

So to the winners, congratulations for having the right idea. To those who don’t win, at least you tried.

— Hakeem Mikle

For the juniors who do not get elected, have no fear.  Hakeem Mikle ran for President last year and although he did not win, he said, “Work does not always equal success, but it does equal effort. In life we can do nothing but try and hope for the best. By doing so, we then learn from our mistakes or realize we had the right idea in the first place. So to the winners, congratulations for having the right idea. To those who don’t win, at least you tried. That is more than others can say.”

Elections will be held this week on Thursday, September 10 after campaign speeches are made after school the 9.  The results or possible runoffs will be announced on Friday.
